2024–2025 Class Schedule
Below is a sneak peek of Cantarella’s 2024–2025 class schedule. Online registration for the fall will begin in mid-August with in-person open registration to follow on August 28, 29 and 30.
Class Descriptions

Mommy & Me
Ages 2 & 3, non-performing class
Mommy & Me is a developmental class focusing on parent/guardian and child participation. This class will help enhance their motor skills and coordination, with fun exercises, music, and props — while they learn to take a class and build friendships.

Tumble Combo
Ages 3 & 4, performing class
(one parent required to stay)This class will give your little dancer a foundation in ballet, tap, and tumbling. Ballet and tap will alternate each week, and tumbling will always be the second half of each class. This class will help with motor skills and coordination with fun exercises, music and props, while learning how to work together and build friendships.

Pre Ballet & Tap
Ages 3 & 4
Through creative movement, games and songs, students will be introduced to basic ballet and tap skills and terminology. If dancers choose to participate in the annual recital, a dance of one of the styles will be performed.

Pre-Ballet 1
Ages 3 & 4
Creative movement encompassing stretching, motor coordination, music appreciation and rhythm.
*Pre-Ballet students must be 3 years old to start — no exceptions

Pre-Ballet 2
Ages 5 & 6
A continuation of Pre-Ballet 1 with an introduction to basic ballet steps.

Introduction to Ballet
Ages 6 & 7
The basics of the ballet barre are taught with development of center and diagonal floor work. Focus on proper alignment and strength.

Elementary Ballet 1 & 2
Ages 7+
The basics of ballet barre and center work are taught with emphasis on proper placement and body alignment. Each level builds on material learned in the previous level with more complex musicality, rhythm, and physical movements added as the student progresses.

Intermediate/Advanced Ballet
Ages 11+
Emphasis on strengthening technique with new steps introduced at each level. Total body awareness becoming an integral part of development. Combination steps, speed, more advanced skills, and musicality and lyricism are reinforced at these levels.
*Serious dance students are encouraged to study more frequently in preparation for pointe work and men’s technique.

Pointe
Ages 10+ with Teacher Approval
All pointe students are strongly encouraged to take ballet class twice a week. Pointe work requires strength, ankle flexibility, and correct alignment. Students are recommended for pointe work on an individual basis at the discretion of the director.

Elementary Jazz
Ages 7+
Stylized dance of center floor exercises to develop strength and flexibility, including dance combinations.

Intermediate/Advanced Jazz
Ages 11+
(three years of ballet experience required to take this class)Jazz is one of the most popular and well-known forms of dance. This class will focus on flexibility and strength, while maintaining proper technique in an upbeat class that keeps moving!

Elementary Tap 1 & 2
Ages 7+
Tap technique focusing on body coordination and rhythmical foot patterns

Elementary 2/Intermediate Tap
Ages 9+
This class will help with musicality and rhythm skills through tap technique and with different combinations. This is a fun and energetic class that will have your feet moving.

Intermediate/Advanced Tap
Ages 11+
This class builds upon the basic foundation of tap, creating rhythmic sounds, improvisation, and syncopation.

Hip Hop
Ages 10+
Hip Hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Class includes conditioning, stylization, and choreography.

Modern Dance
Ages 8+
Dance form based on fundamental ballet training and focusing on the modern dance techniques of Martha Graham, Jose Limon, and Lester Horton.

Musical Theatre
Ages 7+
Step into the role of your favorite musicals with character and jazz dance! This class explores stage and movie musicals through dance with acting basics to develop your performance.

Contemporary
Ages 11+
(three years of ballet experience required to take this class)This class offers the technique of ballet through an interesting and beautiful blend of sharp and soft movement. Contemporary is widely used by ballet companies as a more modern dance style, alongside ballet. This class is a wonderful addition for broadening a dancer’s repertoire.

Lyrical
Ages 11+
A combination of ballet, modern, and jazz that uses music and lyrics to inspire movement. Students will refine technique and learn original choreography with the focus on emotion and artistic quality.
